Brighton’s Power of Pink
Brighton – the accessories manufacturer that has donated nearly $2 million to breast cancer charities since 2003 – has announced that, in the 5th year of their annual Power of Pink promotion to support breast cancer charities, they are tripling their efforts to protect the women we all hold precious. They are introducing not one or two pieces of jewelry as in past years – but three new pieces of jewelry to raise money for the charities.
Brighton Collectibles has pledged to donate $10 to breast cancer awareness organizations for each $50 necklace and bracelet sold. For each $34 earrings sold, Brighton will donate $5.00. The limited edition Power of Pink necklace, bracelet and earrings will be available from September 29 to October 31, 2007.
This year’s collection uses semi-precious rose quartz beads and hollow pierced silver caps, but there is even greater beauty in the meanings they hold. The rose quartz stones are a soothing, calming crystal that is said to promote love and healing.
Words have the power to send messages of love and healing as well, so the inscriptions on the charms remind the wearer to have gratitude for WHAT IS right now: “live life to the fullest," "here & now," "enjoy every moment.” Brighton's designers believe that, "Even the hardest moments can be a gateway to discovering a new you." They want to support every woman, no matter how serious the situation she is facing. Every glimpse of this jewelry allows each woman to connect with the words and be reminded that she can always be present to, and grateful for, the joy of living.
To Brighton, the Power of Pink is about much more than selling pieces of jewelry; it represents the power that each of us has to make a difference in the lives of the women who mean so much to us.
Anyone can be diagnosed with this disease – not only the elderly and middle-aged, but thousands of women in their 20s and 30s. In the U.S. alone, an estimated 240,000 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in 2007; 11,100 under age 40. Each year, 40,000 women die of breast cancer – 1,100 are under 40 years old.
Brighton’s involvement in this cause speaks to the core values of the company. When Brighton’s owners Jerry and Terri Kohl started their business over 30 years ago, they resolved to have a different kind of company that would be run from the heart, by caring about and personally servicing the specialty stores that sold their products and the consumers who purchased them. So it was only natural that, when they heard the stories of families struggling with the challenges of breast cancer, they wanted to help. As manufacturers, they decided it made sense to create jewelry that would raise money for the charities.
Today, their unwavering commitment has created a ripple effect. The Power of Pink is not just about selling jewelry; in fact you might say that’s where it begins. In conjunction with the promotion, Brighton Collectibles stores and nearly all of the specialty retailers also organize events to raise additional donations to breast cancer organizations.
In previous years, the company’s donations went to charities that included Evelyn Lauder’s Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the Salk Institute, City of Hope, and Susan G. Komen, as well as hundreds of community based organizations selected by the individual stores.
Believing that “the more we all give, the sooner we’ll reach a cure,” Brighton’s intention is to set off a chain reaction of donations to breast cancer charities – which doesn’t stop with the stores and the events, but continues to spread awareness that results in many individuals giving additional donations to the charities.
